The Sumner Sisters with Lt. Colonel Ray Sumner (retired)

Saturday, March 11,  6 – 8 pm, Pioneer Village Museum, Hot Sulphur Springs, Free

Ray Sumner will do a presentation on the Sumner sisters, Marietta Sheriff and Elizabeth Byers. Elizabeth Byers was the wife of William Byers, owner of the Rocky Mountain News and founder of Hot Sulphur Springs. Marietta Sheriff homesteaded the Sheriff Ranch in 1882 just outside of Hot Sulphur Springs. Ray Sumner is a descendent of Jack Sumner, the brother of Marietta and Elizabeth and one of the leaders of the Powell Expedition. Since retiring from the Army, Ray Sumner has enrolled in a graduate history course at CSU and has been planning a 150th anniversary celebration of the Powell Expedition.
